The Lotus Eaters were a group of people encountered by Odysseus and his crew in Homer’s Odyssey. They lived on an island where the only food was the lotus plant, which acted like a drug. Anyone who ate the lotus forgot their home and desires, wanting only to stay on the island and keep eating the plant. When some of Odysseus’s men consumed it, they lost all will to return home, forcing him to drag them back to the ship and sail away. The Lotus Eaters symbolize the dangers of temptation, forgetfulness, and losing sight of one's goals.
